“The radicals pushing political Islam do not want to coexist with America’s culture and political order. They want to replace it,” Rep. Roy warned during last week’s Congressional hearing on Sharia law.

Witnesses testified that Sharia authorizes horrifying abuses, including:

• Beheadings for people who leave Islam or criticize Muhammad

• Child “marriage” and sexual exploitation

• Enslavement and rape of women

• Stoning women for adultery

• “Honor killings” of daughters and sisters

• Barbaric punishments like amputations for petty theft

“To every non-Muslim, it [Sharia] offers three choices: convert, submit, or die,” testified Mekelburg. “It does not stop until every court, school, and government on earth is under Sharia.”

Meanwhile, networks tied to the Muslim Brotherhood are advancing Sharia through thousands of Islamic nonprofits nationwide. Massive Islamic compounds are emerging in places like Texas and Florida, complete with Islamic banks and Sharia courts operating outside American traditions, values, and law.

Yet despite this overwhelming testimony, one liberal Christian organization is actively opposing the legislation!

Amanda Tyler, executive director of the Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty, argued before Congress that banning Sharia would perpetuate “harmful stereotypes and misinformation about Islam and Muslims.”

But the evidence presented at the hearing did not come from stereotypes. It came from Islamic texts, Islamic clerics, and documented examples of Sharia practices.

Tyler claims, “Religious freedom depends on government remaining neutral when it comes to religion.”

She is correct about religious liberty. But religious liberty does not give anyone the right to impose a foreign legal system above American law.

No religious doctrine can supersede the Constitution of the United States.

Congress must act now before Sharia gains a stronger foothold in America.
