When people applauded NYC Mayor Mamdani for proposing sharia, they almost certainly didn't know what they were celebrating. But we here at Christians in Defense of Israel understand this deadly Islamic law system very well, and it is absolutely incompatible with our American values and our system of government.

Here are just a few examples of sharia’s abuses: 

1. Rape victims receive a death sentence:
   In countries like Iran or under past laws in Pakistan, women who reported rape were charged with adultery and stoned to death for being a rape victim or forced to marry her rapist to escape the death sentence.

2. Homosexuality punishable by death:
   Iran, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Yemen, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Brunei, Nigeria, and Somalia, homosexuality is punishable by death. In some countries, the victims are stoned to death, while in others (like Iran), the bodies of the deceased are hoisted by construction cranes and hung over the city as a warning to others.

3. Pedophilia Child Marriage:
   Sharia allows adult men to marry underage girls without their consent. Muhammad, the founder of Islam, "married” a 9-year-old little girl. This continues to happen today in countries like Yemen and Nigeria.

4. Dress codes enforced with beatings and death:
   In Iran and under Taliban rule in Afghanistan, strict dress codes for women have been enforced by law. Penalties for noncompliance have included fines, arrest, physical punishment, even rape and stoning to death.

5. Women only allowed the rights their fathers and husbands give them:
   In Saudi Arabia and other Islamic, sharia-abiding countries, a male guardianship system requires women to obtain permission from a male relative (father, husband, or even son) for life decisions — such as travel, marriage, or sometimes work.

6. Women have no voice in court:
   A woman’s testimony in court has been treated as worth less than a man’s and therefore requires corroboration from a man, or the woman’s testimony is thrown out. As a result, women rarely get justice, particularly in financial disputes or sexual assault cases.

7. No divorce or custody rights for women:
   Women have no rights in divorce and custody agreements, often losing complete custody of her children, as well as everything she owns.

Sharia is absolutely incompatible with the American legal system.

We must stop it before it gains any further ground in our land of freedom.
