The leading exponent of this attack is Tucker Carlson, who reaches millions via his podcasts on X.com and elsewhere. Carlson fiercely attacks Christian Zionists — America’s most fervent pro-Israel constituency: “I dislike them more than anybody, you know, because it’s Christian heresy and I’m offended by that as a Christian.”

In fact, Christian Zionism — support for Israel’s right to live in its ancestral, divinely promised, biblical homeland — is no heresy but rather is fidelity to Scripture. It finds its support in God’s explicit land promises to Abraham and his commitment to the father of Israel to “bless those who bless you” while also pledging that “him who dishonors you I will curse” (Gen. 12:3).

Christian Zionism is also an American tradition dating to our nation’s founding. John Adams longed for the Jewish return to their ancient homeland and Elias Boudinot wondered whether our nation might, in future years, be a divine instrument to facilitate the restoration of Israel.

But in a combative interview with Sen. Ted Cruz — who is aggressively challenging rising antisemitism on the right — Carlson ridiculed Cruz for relying on Genesis 12:3 as his basis to support Israel. And then he tromped further into the antisemitic swamp, asking: “Is the nation God is referring to in Genesis, is that the same as the country run by Benjamin Netanyahu right now?”

In other words, is modern Israel biblical Israel? That’s an absurd question that ignores the clear evidence of history. At the same time, it opens the door to replacement theology — a rank heresy introduced into the early church, which fueled centuries of Christian antisemitism.
